News - LFD Takes the Cup at Black Creek 2010

For the third year in a row, the Loyalist Fifes and Drums have participated in the annual battle for Black Creek. Despite unsettled weather, the weekend was a success. This year the drums performed a short parade on the village green, in addition to the regular tactical demonstrations.

On Sunday, The Royal Yorkers installed their new Honorary Colonel. The LFD participated in the ceremony, providing appropriate martial music for the occasion.

Also new this year, the Drums entered a team to compete for the Colonel Crawford Memorial Test Cup. This year the test was a cricket game, with some modified rules. With the leadership of our star players, Rori, Leisha Andrea, we successfully won the game and hoisted the cup in victory.

On the final day, due to the moisture from the previous day, the Drum Major's calf skin drum head burst. On the upside, we had a base drum added to the musical mix.

It was a weekend to remember.
